The 2015 Guide for Giving launched on #GivingTuesday and celebrated with the whole world the new holiday tradition of gratitude and community giving. Today, more than 700 gifts have been made to raise a whopping $103,000 and counting!

Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation (TTCF) and Sierra Sun partnered up for the second year in a row to host the Give Back Tahoe Giving Season. The intent is to elevate our incredible nonprofit community by offering them a platform to reach neighbors and visitors who may share their philanthropic interests but who may not have heard of them.  This is particularly valuable to our many smaller organizations. The campaign raises dollars and recruits volunteers so our nonprofits can begin 2016 with the resources needed to run their individual missions.

“Our community is unique. While one day of giving might be enough for some places, our region deserves a whole season to celebrate generosity, gratitude and neighborly acts of kindness. Our expectations have been completely surpassed, and it has been truly wonderful to see our community come together to support these hardworking nonprofits,” said Stacy Caldwell, TTCF CEO.

The Guide for Giving features 73 local nonprofit efforts that serve seven areas of impact. With a cumulative of $225,000 in available matching dollars, some donations are doubled straight away. TTCF leveraged even more resources by rounding up donors to collectively sponsor $40,000 in Challenge Grants. The Challenge Grants reward nonprofits and their donors for exemplary fundraising efforts. They are based on unique donations (meaning one donor to one organization one time) which creates an impetus for nonprofits to reach out to their community, start a conversation and expand their networks- something that will serve them well into the future.

Even with all this time to give, it has been one of our snowiest months in years (!!) so we know that some well-intentioned donors have not yet made their year-end gifts. Not to worry, until 11:59pm on December 31st you can still participate in the Giving Season at www.givebacktahoe.org. The December 31st Tahoe-Time Challenge, which honors our local tradition of laid back timekeeping, awards $1,000 to each of the first five organizations to receive twenty donations of $50 or more. The grand prizes award nine nonprofits between $3,000 and $4,000!
