Maintain the safety net in order to meet the basic needs of food, shelter, clothing etc for all local residents

  • Project MANA addressed a 44% increase in demand (35,592 total served in 2009) by supplementing regular food bags with additional protein and carbohydrates resulting in an 80% drop in emergency food bag requests
  • Slow Food Lake Tahoe revived Project MANA’s community garden
  • Sierra Senior Services annually provides over 17,000 hot meals to over 200 senior citizens and disabled adults and delivers hot meals to over 90 homebound clients
  • Tahoe Women’s Services’ Safe House staff provided crisis intervention, ongoing case management, continuous peer counseling, and transportation outings for women and children with an average 46 day stay and violence prevention educators made 188 presentations to 4,424 individuals
  • Grant funds to Community Recovery Resources supported the case managing social worker for women in the transitional home in Truckee when state funding was cut

Increase access to preventative care, intervention and case management to keep people out of crisis and help those who are in crisis

  • Sierra Family Services expanded access to counseling and drug treatment services in the Tahoe region for low income and non-insured people, serving 19 clients in 122 sessions
  • Planned Parenthood Mar Monte provided comprehensive, age-appropriate, Teen Pregnancy Prevention Programs at Truckee Tahoe schools
  • Family Resource Center of  Truckee maintained and expanded their case management, resource and referral, and legal advocacy programs, reaching more people last year
  • North Tahoe Family Resource Center continued their programs such as  the Early Learning Project, Youth Advocacy and Community Promotora Education Program to ensure early access to services and case management support
  • Nine automatic external defibrillators were installed in public locations in the Truckee-Tahoe area by the North Lake Tahoe Fire Protection District
