Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and Sierra Sun have been working hard on the second annual Give Back Tahoe Giving Guide.  The 2014 holiday season introduced the inaugural giving campaign, and for six weeks promoted the missions and up-to-date goals of local nonprofit efforts. Inspired by the same concepts as Giving Tuesday, the Giving Guide is a new giving tradition of generosity and altruism with a spin unique to North Tahoe-Truckee’s own culture of residents, second homeowners, and visitors.

The printed directory and online giving portal facilitate collective giving and, this year, volunteerism.  Give Back Tahoe’s online campaign keeps a live count of donations so donors can track their favorite nonprofits’ progress towards meeting their goals.  Every week after releasing the printed directory, Sierra Sun shows the collective progress of our efforts by publishing the growth of the “Giving Tree.” The campaign’s length and breadth exposes as many people as possible to our nonprofits and their outstanding impact.

First year expectations were tempered and we hoped for 30 nonprofit participants and a total of $30,000 in donations.  Our nonprofits and donors blew those numbers away.  We had 60 local nonprofit participants and collectively raised $124,000!  This year, we expect more nonprofits to participate to make an even larger regional impact.

The 2015 Giving Guide will follow a similar course, but with additional benefits.  The Giving Guide will launch on December 2, 2015, as we celebrate Giving Tuesday with our global philanthropic community.  This year, however, the Giving Guide becomes a year round effort to promote our nonprofit community.

During the giving season, we have added incentives to reward nonprofits and their donors through impact matches and competitions. As we all engage in the process of collective giving, our neighbors and visitors will unite under the shared goal to cultivate a thriving region.  Nonprofits will also be able to provide open volunteer opportunities upon registration, and can update their volunteer needs throughout the year.

If you are a nonprofit organization that serves the North Tahoe-Truckee region, visit www.givebacktahoe.org to participate in the Giving Guide. There will be webinars, resources, marketing tools, and meetings to ensure that your campaign is as successful as possible. Registration ends September 21.
