Mark and Carol Steingard have lived in the Reno – Tahoe region for over forty years and, like all of us, really love Tahoe.
“We enjoy the lake, kayaking, boating, and fishing. We love the mountains for their beauty, hiking trails, wild life and serenity. We enjoy all the theater, concerts, museums, art classes, seminars, and community activities available in Tahoe,” Carol shared with TTCF.
Mark and Carol have been involved with TTCF for years. After reading a scholarship article in a TTCF newsletter, they saw a wonderful opportunity to support the life of a young adult living here. They created The 2016 Steingard and Blumenstock Scholarship for the Arts. The onetime $1,000 scholarship is named in honor of both Carol and Mark’s parents.
“Our parents came from Russia and Poland for a better life in the United States. Economic times were difficult when they grew up and after high school they got jobs to help support their widowed mothers and siblings. They wanted more for their children and provided an opportunity for us to attend college to pursue our dreams,” said Carol.
Grateful for the opportunity to follow their own interests, they wanted to pass this pass this spirit forward. Mark’s own appreciation of art lead him to become an Art Dealer and he wanted to give an emerging artist the opportunity to make his dream a reality.
They know from their own parents’ experiences that even with excellent intentions, hard work, and talent, sometimes things happen beyond our control that prevent a young person from being able to be true to their interests and passions.
As Carol and Mark said, “We can all learn from every person whose path we intersect with. We hope that each of us can live the best life we can with love, devotion, integrity, success and happiness.”
TTCF thanks all of the individuals and organizations who hold and sponsor scholarships with our foundation. If you would like to apply for a scholarship or to donate, please visit our Grants Page.
