Housing Lunch and Learn Series Topic 1: Unlocking Potential: Recent ADU Research and Its Impact on Policy and Development
Speakers:
- Erin Casey, President/CEO, Tahoe Housing Hub
- Thomas J. Powell, Senior Advisor, Brehon Strategies
Date: Friday, September 13, 2024
Time: 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm
Location: Virtual on Zoom
Join us for an engaging conversation with Erin and Tom as we explore Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) as a creative solution for addressing housing needs in our community. We will discuss different types of ADUs, local responses, and the critical role of policies, programs, and people in supporting this housing solution. We will also hear inspiring stories about local homeowners, who have successfully navigated the process of building an ADU.
Tom, who recently completed his Doctorate at Northeastern University, will share insights from his dissertation, “Addressing the ‘Missing Middle’: A Mixed-methods Study on the Impact of Accessory Dwelling Units on Middle-Income Workforce Housing in Truckee, California.” His research provides valuable data on how ADUs can help bridge the housing gap for middle-income workers in our region.
Erin will present findings from her research, Accessory Dwelling Units White Paper (Update), and will share strategies to increase the number of ADUs being built in our region.
Additionally, we’ll highlight the Tahoe Housing Hub, which provides homeowners interested in building an ADU with comprehensive planning, construction management, and lease-up support.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn, share, and be inspired by real-life examples of how ADUs are making a difference!

Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and Housing
Since 2013, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation has been at the forefront of identifying and developing housing solutions for our region. Elevate Tahoe, produced in collaboration with Moonshine Ink, was a three-part series that brought to the surface the emerging housing crisis. In 2016, TTCF facilitated the first-ever regional workforce housing needs assessment. In 2017, TTCF launched the Mountain Housing Council of Tahoe Truckee to bring together 29 diverse stakeholders from across sectors and the region to address the local achievable housing crisis.
