TTCF Convenes Local Partners to Develop Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) Blueprint

With all of the uncertainty that our community has faced over the years, we have learned important lessons on crisis preparation and response. Between the COVID-19 pandemic, power outages and an increasing threat of wildfires, we identified opportunities for improvement in our communication tools and processes. In order to be a strong resilient community, we know we must stay organized and connected, which led us to developing a Community Organizations Active in Disaster (COAD) Blueprint.

Over the course of six months, we convened more than 30 community-based organizations, public agencies and service networks to develop a blueprint that would help our region prepare, respond and recover from disasters. The COAD Blueprint was made possible by a seed grant from the League of California Community Foundations and was facilitated by an expert consultant. 

COAD participants determined that these efforts would be most effective if they were led by a full-time staff member of an existing organization that served both Placer and Nevada Counties. Connecting Point was identified as the most viable and has hired local resident Anne Rarick as the Tahoe Truckee COAD Manager. Anne served as the Director of Hunger Relief for Sierra Community House for the past several years and has a long history of working with nonprofits and community groups in the Tahoe Truckee area. Anne holds a bachelor’s degree in Spanish & International Studies and a master’s degree in Public Health. In her new role, Anne will convene leaders from across the community to act on the blueprint. The position is jointly funded by the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation, Connecting Point, Placer & Nevada Counties, and the Town of Truckee. This work will be ongoing to ensure that Tahoe Truckee is increasingly resilient in the face of future disasters.
