In 2012, it became obvious that the needs of families and residents in Kings Beach and surrounding neighborhoods could be better served. Convening concerned citizens, local business and nonprofit leaders, community organizers, and county staff, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation headed the brainstorm. The solution was proposed to build a community house, one welcoming home for families and individuals to seek and receive integrated services for a wide-range of needs.
Now, Community House of Kings Beach is a home to critical safety net organizations that provide easy access to comprehensive family support services. Community House also acts as a safe space for enrichment classes, meetings, counseling services, and groups of all kinds. Working with other nonprofit agencies, Community House’s impact continues to amplify to nurture healthy families and a self-reliant community.
Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation led the Campaign for Community House in partnership with S.H. Cowell Foundation, Placer County, and the three anchor organizations headquartering at Community House: Tahoe SAFE Alliance, North Tahoe Family Resource Center, and Project MANA. The collaborative efforts of these organizations, donors, volunteers, and concerned community members planned, built, and brought to fruition Community House.
