Over the last 15 years, Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation and our donors have distributed more than $400,000 to TMM. As part of TTCF’s 15 year celebration, TMM will receive a gift in honor of TTCF donors, Polly and Tom Bredt.
The Tahoe Maritime Museum (TMM) was founded in 1987 by those dedicated to preserving the rich maritime history of Lake Tahoe. The mission has been to stimulate interest, increase knowledge, and maintain watercraft and marine artifacts significant in Lake Tahoe’s maritime history through the highest standards of historic preservation, innovative interpretation and public education.
The collection includes thousands of artifacts beyond the vessels, all of which relate the history of the lake. From interactive exhibits, rides on historic wooden boats to kids learning stand up paddle boarding, they have made the lake accessible to tourists and residents alike in new and exciting ways.
This summer they are featuring a new exhibit: Tahoe Escape: Surviving the Great Depression. Check out their website for times. www.tahoemaritimemuseum.org
However, don’t miss this insider tip to check out the annex in Truckee which is filled with rare boats too large for the Homewood site, a must for hard core boat lovers! Annex tours are available, but you’ll need to call ahead for a reservation.
