Local company, A-Frame Rising, celebrates one year in business by creating a scholarship for a Tahoe Truckee student interested in pursuing architecture, interior design or construction management. Business partners, Todd and Daly, both have a passion for education and want to encourage students to pursue fulfilling, creative work. They personally experienced financial barriers to education and hope their contribution can make a difference for a hard-working student. Given that only 17% of US registered architects are women, the A-Frame Rising Scholarship will prioritize female students, as well as first-generation college students.
The concept of A-Frame Rising began in 2016 when Todd Mather challenged himself to design a modern approach to the traditional mountain A-frame home, one that wasn’t clunky, cramped, dark or impractical. In December of 2020, he created A-Frame Rising with his colleague and daughter Daly, and they quickly became collaborating with homeowners on designing their own heritage A-Frame.
As someone who was unable to finish school because of financial reasons, I know how hard it can be to make ends meet. I love that this money will go directly to the student and they are entrusted to use it as needed, and sometimes that might be dinner.
-Daly Mather, A-Frame Rising
