Unlocking Tahoe’s dirty secret: Data from a multiyear monitoring project

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. – Clean Up The Lake, the environmental non-profit responsible for the 72-mile cleanup of Lake Tahoe, has recently completed a two-year monitoring effort on the lake. CUTL conservation dive teams revisited 20 litter hotspots in the 0 to 25-foot depths along the Nevada shoreline that were identified during the 72-mile cleanup of Lake Tahoe in 2021. Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation is a proud funder of this project.

Tahoe, Truckee communities granted $347k to improve mental, behavioral health services

The Katz Amsterdam Charitable Trust and Foundation on Wednesday announced $2.46 million in mental and behavioral health grants to be awarded to community-based organizations in nine mountain communities across North America, including Lake Tahoe and Truckee. This is the fifth year grants were awarded, with aggregate funding of over $13.5 million, to help increase overall access to mental health care, reduce behavioral health stigma and improve community-developed services for communities of color and indigenous populations.  This year’s grants will benefit over 40 organizations.

Homelessness an issue in North Lake Tahoe

The housing crisis in North Lake Tahoe has hit new levels, with multiple organizations coming together to battle the increasing need to support homeless neighbors. “Speaking from a community point of view, and also from a spiritual point of view, your neighbor may not be the person who is residing on your street,” said Rev. Clare Novak with United in Action, a North Tahoe/Truckee coalition of faith-based organizations. “Your neighbor is a person in your community that you’re connected to, and these lines of community connection are so important.”
