This scholarship commemorates three members of the Peckler family— an involved and beloved Los Gatos family. Jim 52, Jill 21, and Jeff 15, were killed by a drunk driver in Truckee on January 17, 1997. The scholarship is awarded to a student who exemplifies the values, commitment, and caring nature of these three. Jim, a father of four, valued volunteerism and dedicated his life to youth and education. Jill excelled academically and in athletics in high school and as a pre-med student at UC Davis. Jill is remembered for her friendship, laughter, and love. Jeff lived a life of kindness and caring. He was a straight-A student and was involved in school government, community service, and athletics.
This award is comprised of two scholarships of $1000 made available to a Truckee High School student and a North Tahoe High School student. Each recipient is selected on the following criterion – compassion, kindness and caring to others, and inspiration as a role model. The recipients demonstrate a commitment to public service areas such as fire, nursing, teaching, police, first responders, and nonprofit volunteers. Honoring students with a humanitarian heart, the scholarship is not predicated on scholastic or athletic achievement.
